St. Maarten economy expands by 1% in 2013

The Department of Statistics has released preliminary estimates of economic growth in 2013 as measured by the Gross Domestic Product by production at 1.0% in real terms.

Compared to 2012, when final estimates show growth of 1.4%, the 2013 results confirm a deceleration of economic activities particularly with a slower pace growth in the government sector and decrease in gross value added of the Financial intermediation sector.

Prices have increased slightly compared to August 2014

The consumer price index for Sint Maarten has increased in the month of October 2014 by 0.2 percent compared to that of August 2014.

When comparing average consumer prices over a twelve month period (Oct. 2013 to Oct. 2014), an increase of 2.1 percent was recorded compared to the same period one year earlier.

Results Labour Force Survey 2013

The Labour Force Survey (LFS) is a sample survey conducted every two years. The last Labour Force Survey was performed in 2009 by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). In 2011, the Department of Statistics (STAT) of St. Maarten conducted the Population and Housing Census, which included a section on Labour & Income statistics. Therefore, the LFS was repeated in 2013 and not 2011.

Prices have increased slightly compared to June 2014

The consumer price index for Sint Maarten has increased in the month of August 2014 by 0.3 percent compared to that of June 2014.

When comparing average consumer prices over a twelve month period (Aug. 2013 to Aug. 2014), an increase of 2.2 percent was recorded compared to the same period one year earlier.
